How to Add Animated Charts to Videos
Create your chart in AECharts, export as MP4 or transparent WebM, and drop it into any video editor.
This works in Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, iMovie, CapCut, DaVinci Resolve, PowerPoint, and Keynote. The transparent WebM export removes the chart background entirely, so the chart floats over your footage with no compositing required.
Create Your ChartStep 1: Create your animated chart
Go to AECharts and pick a chart type — bar chart, line chart, bar race, pie chart, or animated number. Choose a template, paste your data from a spreadsheet or upload a CSV or Excel file, then customize colors, fonts, and labels to match your video's look.
Adjust the animation speed in the sidebar so the chart animates at the pace you want in your video. A 3–5 second animation works well for most social media content; 8–12 seconds gives more breathing room for presentations.

AECharts offers two export formats for video use:
| Format | Background | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| MP4 | Solid (white, black, or custom color) | iMovie, PowerPoint, Keynote, CapCut mobile, standalone chart videos |
| Transparent WebM | Transparent (alpha channel) | Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, CapCut desktop, DaVinci Resolve — overlay on footage |
Both export at 1080p, 60fps, entirely in your browser. Your data never leaves your device.
Transparent WebM requires a Pro account. MP4 export is available on all plans.
Step 3: Add the chart to your video
Instructions for each major video editor below. The pattern is the same in all of them: import the file, place it on a track above your footage, and position it on screen.
Adobe Premiere Pro
- In your Project panel, click Import and select the MP4 or WebM file exported from AECharts.
- Drag the clip from the Project panel onto your timeline, on a track above your main footage.
- For transparent WebM: right-click the clip → Modify → Interpret Footage, and confirm the alpha channel is set to Premultiplied. The chart background will be transparent.
- Trim, reposition, or scale the clip using the Effect Controls panel.
Apple Final Cut Pro
- Import the MP4 or WebM file via File → Import → Media.
- Drag the clip into the timeline above your primary storyline — this creates a connected clip.
- For transparent WebM: Final Cut Pro reads the alpha channel automatically. The chart background drops out with no extra steps.
- Use the Transform controls in the viewer to reposition or scale the chart on screen.
iMovie
- Import the MP4 file into iMovie's media library.
- Drag it onto the timeline above your video clip — iMovie will prompt you to use it as a cutaway or picture-in-picture.
- Choose Picture in Picture and reposition the chart in the viewer.
- Note: iMovie does not support transparent WebM. Use MP4 export for iMovie and crop or mask the background manually if needed.
CapCut
- Tap the + icon to start a project and add your main video clip.
- Tap Overlay → Add Overlay and select the MP4 or WebM file from AECharts.
- Drag to reposition and pinch to scale the chart on the canvas.
- For transparent WebM: CapCut (desktop) supports alpha channel — the chart background will be transparent. Mobile CapCut may render a black background; use MP4 in that case.
PowerPoint & Keynote
- In PowerPoint: Insert → Video → This Device, then select your MP4 file. Resize and reposition on the slide.
- Set playback to Automatically so the chart animates when the slide appears.
- In Keynote: Insert → Choose, select the MP4, then set it to Play Automatically in the Movie inspector.
- Transparent WebM is not supported in either PowerPoint or Keynote — use MP4 export for presentation software.

Tips for better results
Match your chart's color palette to your video
Use AECharts' color controls to match your brand colors or the look of your footage before exporting. Consistent colors make the chart feel like part of the video rather than an overlay.
Use transparent WebM for documentary and news content
Overlaying a chart with a transparent background on real footage is the most professional look. It works the same way as broadcast motion graphics — the chart animates over the shot without a box or frame around it.
Set a longer animation for presentations, shorter for social
For LinkedIn or TikTok, 2–4 seconds keeps attention. For a board presentation where you're narrating each bar as it appears, 6–10 seconds gives you time to talk through the data.
Hold on the last frame
After the animation completes, keep the chart on screen for a few seconds before cutting away. In your editor, extend the clip or set it to freeze on the last frame so viewers have time to read the final values.
